About the event
A programme of music written specifically for Oxford and its famous college chapel choirs. This programme includes many of the pinnacles of such repertoire: Harris' wonderfully expressive double choir anthem, written of New College, "Faire is the Heaven", Leighton's thrilling Magnificat for Magdalen College, Howells' "Like as the hart" for Christ Church, and Parry's "My Soul there is a country" which was premiered in Exeter College Chapel itself.
Thame's own Howard Goodall studied at Christ Church, and his "Love divine", a setting of another Oxfordian, Charles Wesley, was written for the cathedral choir. Music by Lennox Berkeley, Walton, Sheppard, Taverner, Gibbons, Grayston Ives, Francis Grier, and Matthew Martin completes a rich and varied tapestry of music inspired by Oxford and its dreaming spires.
