Thame Chamber Choir was officially "launched" in 1999, having been started by former members of The Thame Singers. Under the direction of Roger Moon, the choir attracted new members through advertising and by word of mouth. Since its inception as a new choir, TCC has gone from strength to strength, always expanding its repertoire and constantly striving to improve its performance, whilst at the same time taking enormous pleasure in rehearsing glorious music in good company.
In January 2007, Duncan Aspden was appointed as Musical Director, and so the process of learning and improving is now continuing under his expert guidance. TCC brings together many of the best singers from Thame and the surrounding area. Our number includes professional musicians, singing and music teachers, former Cathedral lay clerks and ex-choral scholars from many cities. They blend their voices with others drawn by a passion for excellent choral singing.
Thame Chamber Choir's repertoire has included substantial works by Bach, Bernstein, Charpentier, Dvorak, Faure, Handel, Haydn, Kodaly, Liszt, Mozart, Rossini, Schutz and Vivaldi, as well as shorter works by a wide variety of composers from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century.
Many concerts take place in St. Mary's, the beautiful fifteenth-century church in the heart of Thame. Others are in surrounding villages. Further afield, the choir has sung in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford; Peterborough Cathedral; Wells Cathedral and Bath Abbey.
As well as performing regular public concerts, the choir can be hired to sing at your event. We currently comprise about 30 singers. If you want a smaller group, this can be arranged. Contact us for details.
